Transforming Education: What's next?
SDG4 High-Level Steering Committee to take forward Summit outcomes
The Transforming Education Summit (TES) was convened in response to a global crisis in education – one of equity and inclusion, quality and relevance. The Summit provided a unique opportunity to elevate education to the top of the global political agenda and to mobilize action, ambition, solidarity and solutions to recover pandemic-related learning losses and sow the seeds to transform education in a rapidly changing world.
The SDG 4 High-Level Steering Committee, the apex body of the Global Education Cooperation Mechanism, will continue to monitor progress, promote and facilitate knowledge and practice exchange, engage youth, and champion cross-sector and multilateral cooperation.

Looking ahead, the SDG4 High Level Steering Committee co-chaired by UNESCO and Sierra Leone will play a key role in ensuring the effective follow-up of the Summit – strengthening global, regional, and national level cooperation, the alignment of action between education partners and the provision of support across its three functional areas. UNESCO and partners can also identify ways to strengthen political accountability for transforming and financing education, taking current arrangements for monitoring SDG4 implementation including the Global Education Meetings and the national SDG4 benchmarking process, to the next level.
